LTC Bullet:

Center's LTC Choice on PolicyFax

Tuesday April 27, 1999

Seattle--

The Center for Long-Term Care Financing's policy paper, "LTC Choice: A Simple, Cost-Free Solution to the Long-Term Care Financing Puzzle," is now available from The Heartland Institute's PolicyFax service. Call 312-377-3000 and follow the recorded instructions. See below for details.

According to The Heartland Institute: "The problem of how to finance long-term care (LTC) for the baby-boom generation rivals Social Security as the most serious social policy challenge facing the United States. Yet government policy encourages people to depend on the public coffers. It is not surprising, then, that long-term care insurance is not widely used. To rein in the runaway costs of government-paid long-term care, the Center for Long-Term Care Financing suggests that the estates of those who fall into the government long-term care program be legally encumbered and used for repayment, rather than sheltered as they are today. This would encourage appropriate risk-avoiding behavior through the purchase of long-term care insurance while people were in their 40's and 50's and comparatively healthy." The Heartland Institute is a nonprofit organization providing journalists, public policy researchers, and elected officials with research and commentary on today's vital issues. PolicyFax provides instant access to over 5,000 publications from more than 300 think tanks, trade associations, corporations and publishers--24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Every member of Congress and state legislator across the country has a PolicyFax account number that allows them to order documents for free, as do nearly 3,000 journalists, think tank representatives, and the resource organizations who supply PolicyFax documents. Other users pay $5, charged to their credit cards, for each document or document segment they order from PolicyFax.

"LTC Choice" has been divided into three segments for ordering purposes. After calling 312-377-3000, voice prompts will ask for document ordering numbers which are as follows for "LTC Choice": Executive Summary (3248303), Part 1 (3248404), and Part 2 (3248405). Documents can also be received via e-mail or regular mail. Visit The Heartland Institute's web site at www.heartland.org for ordering information.
