Stone Mountain, Georgia—

LTC Comment:  Sponsor a conference, get publicity, and send Steve Moses to address the “good Medicaid lawyers,” after this message:

LTC BULLET:  MEET THE GOOD MEDICAID LAWYERS

LTC Comment:  The American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys (AAPWA) has honored Steve Moses with an invitation to speak at its 46th Annual National Training and Continuing Education Conference.  We seek a sponsor to support the conference and send Steve to the meeting in Newport, Rhode Island this November.  Details follow at the end of this message.

According to their invitation letter:  “The American Association of Public Welfare Attorneys (AAPWA) is an organization of attorneys who represent state and local human services agencies, including most state Medicaid agencies.”  In other words, these are the lawyers who protect state Medicaid programs from all kinds of legal challenges.

Their letter continues:  “As attorneys for state Medicaid agencies, we share the Center for LTC Reform’s goal of targeting scarce public resources to those most in need, and its concern with abuses of Medicaid eligibility rules.”  Clearly, these are allies in our struggle to preserve Medicaid as a quality LTC safety net for people in need by diverting those who are financially able to early LTC planning and private payment alternatives.

That’s the good news.  Here’s the bad news:  “I must warn you that we have no budget for speakers’ expenses.  We have to rely on speakers’ own funding sources.”  Not too big a surprise.  Anyone fighting on behalf of Medicaid and the poor has trouble raising funds.

Your Center for Long-Term Care Reform is no exception.

But here’s the best news. The AAPWA will earmark a conference sponsorship contribution for Steve’s expenses.  We estimate the cost for Steve to attend and present at the AAPWA’s 2013 conference would be approximately $2,000. That’s also the cost of a “Silver Sponsorship” of the meeting which comes with the following benefits:

  • One complimentary, full-conference registration
  • Quarter-page advertisement on the conference program USB drive distributed to each conference attendee
  • Recognition of sponsorship at opening session remarks and at Business Meeting later in conference
  • Complimentary exhibit table in the vendor area of the conference, with sponsorship recognition ribbon

You can find all the details and a “Sponsorship Registration Form” here: http://www.aphsa.org/conference/doc/2013/SponsorsAAPWA.PDF

Calling all friends of the Center for LTC Reform.  Can you help us with this special project?  If so, fill out the sponsorship registration form here, submit it as instructed on the form, and let us know at the Center that you’re on board so that we can get your sponsorship earmarked for Steve’s expenses.  We’ll recognize you for your support with an LTC Bullet sponsorship at no extra cost.

Don’t feel left out if you can’t sponsor the conference officially.  We’ll gladly accept special contributions to the Center in any amount to support this speaking engagement.  Just send us an email with the subject line “Send Steve to the Medicaid Lawyers’ Podium.”  Tell us the amount of your pledge and Damon will get in touch.  Your contribution will be acknowledged (unless you ask to remain anonymous) in the LTC Bullets Steve authors to report on the meetings where he presents.

Thanks as always for your support and encouragement.
