A prominent long term care insurance advocate is going on the road with the message that the United States needs private alternatives to Medicaid nursing home benefits.

Stephen Moses, president of the Center for Long Term Care Insurance Reform Inc., Seattle, says his National LTC Consciousness Tour will stress the importance of LTC financing to individuals, families and policy makers in 6 regions of the country. His plan is to spend 2 months in each of the regions, starting in January in the Southeast.

Moses is trying to recruit LTC insurance brokers and agents to work with him in each area, to talk about LTC issues with politicians, policy makers, the public and the media.

“Together, we’ll publish op-ed articles,” Moses said in announcing the tour. “We’ll meet with newspaper editorial boards. We’ll do talk radio. We’ll engage politicians and public officials. We’ll enlist LTC providers. We’ll educate financial planners and accountants. We’ll address estate planning councils. We’ll coordinate with provider and insurer trade associations. We’ll work with reverse mortgage lenders. We will do whatever it takes.”

The National Long Term Care Consciousness Tour Is About To Begin . . .

In March 2007 we talked about Steve Moses' Gadfly Brigade and the nationwide tour he was planning. Well he is all but ready to hit the road.

Moses, president of the Center for  Long Term Care Reform, Inc., will tour the entire United States during 2008.  According to Moses, "The purpose  of this tour is to get closer to the action-to work locally with LTC insurance providers and long term care providers; to collaborate with financial planners, CPAs, and lawyers on the importance of long term care planning; to influence local media, politicians, and policy makers; to join forces with state 'think tanks'; and to work more directly with the public. In other words, to do all the things I do anyway, but with more availability."

During his road trip Moses also plans to teach his LTC graduate seminars in person and online and to write "op-ed" pieces and articles for local newspapers.

Moses is widely recognized as an expert and innovator in the field of long term care.  Previous to founding the center, Moses was president of the Center for Long Term Care Financing (1998-2005); director of research for LTC, Inc., (1989-98); a senior analyst for the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (1987-89); and a Medicaid state representative for the Health Care Financing Administration (1978-87).

Throughout 2008 Moses' road trip will take him to six regions of the United States, where he will spend two months visiting individual states in each region.  He will begin his travels January 1, in the Southeast region of the country. The first city on the tour is Tampa, Florida.  From there, he will head south to Fort Myers, Naples, and Miami.  Then continuing north to Orlando, Greensboro, NC, points in Tennessee, and returning to Atlanta, GA , where he is planning to park the Silver Bullet (see photo [at the top of www.centerltc.com]) prominently near the CNN Plaza during this year's National AALTCI-LTCi Producers' Summit, February 24-26, at the Omni Hotel.

The Long Term Care Consciousness Tour schedule for the entire year is as follows:

January/February-Southeast: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee.

March/April-Southwest: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana.

May/June-Central East:  Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, District of Columbia.

July/August-Northeast:  New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine.

September/October-Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin.

November/December-West: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii.

What an ambitious travel schedule-AND he plans to drive the entire trip, staying in the Air Stream travel trailer pictured here and aptly named the "Silver Bullet of LTC".

If you would like to find out where and how you can work with Steve Moses to promote your business and publicize responsible long term care planning when he passes through your area of the country on the LTC Tour, go to www.centerltc.com. This campaign is very well thought out and there are several different ways interested parties can join in.

By the way, Moses will also continue to produce his daily LTC E-Alerts and weekly LTC bulletins.  He says he plans to collect marketing and sales ideas like "flypaper" and pass them on. He is excited to test ideas and theories in the real world-"to learn, adapt, and act."

Happy Trails, friend!  [SAC]
