LTC Bullet:  2002 SOA LTC Insurance Conference Coming Up

Tuesday November 20, 2001

Seattle—

The Center for LTC Financing's "LTC Triathlon" report called upon long-term care financiers, providers, and insurers to learn more about each other's businesses and to forge stronger alliances for public policy advocacy. (You can read and/or download the report in online at the Center's website at www.centerltc.org.) One good way to effectuate such learning is to attend each other's professional conferences. Here's one from the insurance side that you should strongly consider attending.

After a very successful inaugural event last January, the Society of Actuaries is hosting its Second Annual Intercompany LTCI Conference, January 27-30, 2002 at The Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills, CA. Once again, the Center for LTC Financing is an enthusiastic co-sponsor of the event and will offer our feedback in a post-conference LTC Bullet. Long-term care insurance is an attractive alternative for people to plan ahead for the risk of expensive long-term care in order to ensure quality care at the most appropriate level and to avoid welfare dependency.

According to conference organizers: "A LONG, HARD LOOK at long-term care insurance reveals a product on the cusp of widespread acceptance. However, as LTCI has come of age, so too have the challenges facing insurers: the internet's effect on underwriting, claims practices, pricing assumptions, population eligibility, profitability management, and legislative initiatives, to name a few. The SOA LTCI Symposium will explore all the critical issues in six educational tracks with over 45 sessions. Four receptions in the exhibit hall will allow the underwriters, actuaries, sales and marketing professionals, claims and other management executives the opportunity to share ideas and strengthen critical lines of communication. Last year's event was viewed by all as a resounding success, with over 400 in attendance. Join us in 2002 for the real ‘State of the Union’ on LTCI!"

We encourage you to attend what is sure to be a terrific learning and networking opportunity. Go to www.soa.org/conted/ltci_conference.pdf to view the conference agenda in .pdf format and to register (last page of the document). Be sure to register by November 30, 2001 for a significant discount.
